I work on the web.

Mikey McCorry

This is me. I work on the web.

My name is Michael McCorry. Most peeps call me Mikey, but you can call me whatever you like really. I'm not a big fan of "Mick" but it sounds so natural coming from the people who like to call me that, so who am I to go against nature. I'm not Jon Snook but I look like him. He also works on the web, and is probably more interesting than me, but this is not about him.

I've been working on the web since 1996 when I built my first embarrassing personal homepage while doing a Cert IV in IT. Long story slightly-less-long, I failed the course after spending too much time in the local ISP's chat room instead of studying. I soon after landed my first full-time job with said ISP, working as a web developer for the parent company, a regional newspaper publisher, where I stayed for the next 8 years. There, I learned everything I knew on the job as the need arose, handling commercial web projects from concept to launch.

My full-time gig since 2004 is the Web Co-ordinator at Greater Shepparton City Council where I am responsible for pretty much everything front-end, back-end and sideways-end, to do with their ten-or-so websites. Since 2001, I also freelance part-time under the brand Mad Web Skills, with a number of small business, corporate and government clients under my wing.

The thing I love most about working on the web is that because this industry is so young, I'm always learning new, world-changing stuff, often at the same time as the rest of the web community family, and amazingly, getting paid for it.
