This is me, I work on the web.
It sounds a bit confessional, doesn't it?
I like the emergent nature of the web. Each part is arbitrarily complex, but layered and patchworked so that it all works together somehow, to make something larger, better. The whole social thing kinda passes me by except for keeping up with people I already know.
I'm more of a backend developer, but I really admire those who have what it takes to master the frontend. That's somewhere I enjoy visiting, but wouldn't want to live.
At the moment my crack is Ruby and Rails. Software can be as creative, (or as utilitarian) a pursuit as any other. For me, it should be beautiful, an extension of my will. A language is a vehicle for my expression. It should be thoughtfully and carefully crafted.
The people who don't get this probably never will, so I'm not really into evangelism :)
For a crust I freelance Rails (http://blog.smartbomb.com.au). I live in Sydney with my wonderful wife Ilona. She's a professional mum/occupational therapist, two jobs which are both unselfish and abidingly under appreciated.
Above you see the next generation of web inhabitant, my 10 month old Toby. If things are this cool now, how will it be for him?
