I work on the web.

This is me, I work on the Web

I didn't always want to work in internet. I left quite a good career as an actor to play with geeky stuff. The game Uninvited on a Mac 512k got me sucked in to graphics and UseNet and FTP servers brought the power of community. I worked at Telecom Australia Private Lines at the time - there were 3 of us in our department. Private Lines was the ability to connect remote locations together. Mostly used by Television stations who would put up "channel not available due to Telecom Australia" error). I still have trouble remembering that Telecom Australia is Telstra. :)

I love the fact that the web is more than a bunch of pretty brochure pages. I love that it brings people together, I love that communities and networks are still what's important, and that that didn't get buried with the advertising. I love that I can catch up easily with friends - in Europe or Asia. I love that I don't have to go to the library on Saturday morning to look up something that has been bugging me all week - I can just wiki or google it. I love that strangers drop into my blog SilkCharm to chat about social networks or onto mymobilepals.com to chat about mobile 2.0.

I'm pretty quiet and reserved. When I do go out - usually to a networking event, once every month or so, I switch to "on". But at home, I am definitely "off". :) I still enjoy acting, it encourages me to be confident, and recently completed at Darlinghurst theatre. I used to rollerblade but haven't done that for ages. I really must go back to the gym... :P

This is me, who are you?
